Welcome To The Silly Season
The Summer 'Silly Season' appears to have arrived early in Alice Springs.
Member for Braitling, Adam Giles, said the last week has seen a spate of crimes in the town that suggest the troublemakers who operate at the wrong end of the law in the town have ended their winter hibernation and returned to the streets.
'In the past week there have been cars smashed up on Lyndavale Drive; police officers and security guards on the receiving end of trouble in Heidenreich Court; break-ins on Albrecht Drive; anti-social behaviour on and around Head Street Oval; break-ins at Northside shops and the CBD and items stolen from cars,' Mr Giles said.
'While it's unfortunate residents of Alice Springs have to deal with this type of behaviour, it's timely to remind householders and business operators of the importance of being vigilant in the face of crime.
'Residents in particular should ensure all doors and windows remain locked at night or when the house is empty and to not make it easy for burglars by leaving valuable items in prominent positions or laying about in cars.
'In the event of an incident telephone the police on 131 444, in an emergency phone 000 or for details on joining Neighbourhood Watch telephone 8951 8858.'
