Parliament Shut Down Ahead Of No Confidence Vote
The Territory Opposition believes Parliament should sit as scheduled this week.
“There is no valid justification for shutting down Parliament ahead of the vote of no confidence in the Henderson Government on Friday,” says Kezia Purick, Deputy Opposition Leader.
“Indeed the consideration of such an important motion would benefit from the scrutiny Parliamentary sittings bring.
“So many critical questions remain unanswered about the failure of the SIHIP program to deliver a single home in two years.
“Just how much of the $672 million allocated to SIHIP has been spent so far?
“How much of that money has gone into administrative costs for the Northern Territory Government?
“How many, where, when and at what cost will the promised houses finally be built?
“How many Indigenous Territorians have been employed under SIHIP, in what jobs and at what rates of pay?
“Why has the construction of new homes in the Tennant Creek town camps been cancelled?
“These are just some of the questions relating to SIHIP the Chief Minister has repeatedly refused to answer.
“Paul Henderson already looks shifty and evasive when dealing with straight forward questions about the management of the SIHIP program.
“His determination to cancel Parliament this week confirms he is hiding damaging information from the public.”
