New Territory News Northern Territory Politician Announces Crime CrackdownTerry Mills, Leader of the Opposition, has detailed plans to crack down on street crime and anti-social behaviour is his budget reply.
“Habitual drunks legislation, more police on the beat and prisoners working off their debt to the community are core County Liberal Party commitments,” says Mr Mills.
“The Labor Government lacks the courage to crime and anti-social behaviour in a forthright manner – the CLP will not be found wanting.
“The budget reply also contains a series of family friendly initiatives that will ease the financial burden of raising kids in the Territory.
“We will fund early learning centres that allow for the co-location of child care, pre-school and primary school children. This policy will end the mad morning dash were mum or dad have to drop kids off at 2 or 3 locations before heading to work. It will ease the time pressures that are corroding the quality of family life.
“A CLP Government would also raise the back to school voucher to $75 and introduce a $75 annual sports vouchers for primary and middle school students. The high cost of living in the Territory eats into all family budgets so it’s important that the back to school voucher stays in front of the rising cost of living. We also need to get more kids playing sport. A $75 sport voucher provides an incentive for the kids and their patents.
“A Country Liberal Party will also cut government waste. The reduction of the number of Government Ministers from 9 to 8, a sharp prune of the bloated number of ministerial minders and an end to shameless political propaganda will allow better delivery of services.
“A CLP Government would also develop Glyde Point as the site for future heavy industry around Darwin. We don’t want smelters, chemical fertilizer factories or uranium processing plants located in Darwin Harbour. That’s the future under a Labor Government that zoned has Middle Arm for industrial development.
“A CLP Government would also begin the construction of an Oncology Unit at RDH and re-establish after hours bulk billing at Farrar Health Clinic. Cancer suffers deserve better treatment than they are getting at the hands of the Territory Government. Equally the people of Palmerston deserve an after hours bulk billing facility now – not at some hazy date in the future.” 2008-05-07
