New Territory News No New Policies For Alice SpringsThe Chief Minister, Clare Martin, has gone missing in action during the Greatorex by-election, says the Territory Opposition.
"Not one new policy has been announced, not one extra cent of Government spending has been committed to Alice Springs during the campaign,” says Jodeen Carney, Leader of the Opposition.
'I'm very disappointed the Chief Minister has again passed up an opportunity to put substantial, considered policies about the future of Alice Springs before the electorate.
"No wonder the people of Alice Springs feel they are being neglected by the Martin Government.”
To add insult to injury, during the campaign the announcements regarding money being spent in Darwin are flowing thick and fast.
On the 17th of July, the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Delia Lawrie, announced $4.33 million for the construction of a new access road to Darwin Middle School.
On the 15th of July, the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, announced funding of $20,000 each to Netball NT, NT Hockey Association and NT Rugby Union to purchase portable seating for spectators for Darwin events like the Arafura Games, V8's and the upcoming A-League game
On the 13th of July, the Environment Minister, Marion Scrymgour, opened the newly completed $200 000 Bushfires NT Batchelor Office.
The sole announcement, by the Chief Minister during the campaign, has been for an information campaign regarding changes to alcohol laws.
"By way of contrast the CLP has put forward policies on law and order, home ownership and health services for Alice Springs.
"The CLP is the only party interested in developing and implementing substantial policies for the betterment of Alice Springs.” 2007-07-22
