New Territory News No Need for Early ElectionThe Territory Opposition completely refute the Chief Minister's spurious claims on the need for an early election.
The Chief Minister is attempting to deceive people with his false claim that there is any difference between the Country Liberals and the ALP regarding Inpex coming to Darwin.
"The Country Liberals are 110% behind the Inpex project and I will do everything in my power to make it happen," says Terry Mills, Leader of the Opposition.
"Just like the ALP we support Inpex locating its proposed plant in the harbour.
"The Chief Minister's claims the Country Liberals have a gas reservation policy are completely false - we do not and never have advocated a gas reservation policy.
"Should Inpex locate in Darwin we would do everything in our power to encourage a downstream gas-fired industry to develop, but that would be a commercial decision for Inpex and the market to resolve.
"The real reason the Chief Minister is heading to an early poll is his fear of further electoral fallout from the rising tide of violent crime in the Territory.
"The 83% increase in rate of violent crime in the Territory since Labor came to office has affected too many Territorians.
"People are tired of the Chief Minister's talk on law and order.
"People want action to curb spiralling crime rates and Labor has failed that test for 7 years." 2008-07-21
