New Tennant Creek Disabled Employment Service

Job seekers with a disability in the Tennant Creek area will now have access to a new disability open employment service.

Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, today announced Community Support Agency Ltd has been funded to assist 25 job seekers with disabilities with their job seeking and placement from 1 July 2005.

"Disability open employment services assist people with disabilities to find and retain employment. Services are targeted at those people with disabilities who need some level of ongoing support to remain in the workforce.

"The Howard Government is committed to assisting all people who are willing and able to work into employment. Last financial year, 48 000 people with a disability received assistance from 225 open employment services operating through 325 outlets nationally,” Senator Scullion said.

Services include job search support, employer liaison, training – including on the job training - and post placement support such as regular phone or face to face contact.

Funding is based on the individual needs of job seekers and the employment outcomes achieved, with people with higher support needs receiving higher levels of funding. Importantly, funding is available to allow the service provider to remain in contact with the person with a disability and their employer till the person is well established in their job.

"Community Support Agency is one of ten new employment services recently announced across Australia by the Minister for Workforce Participation, Peter Dutton,” Senator Scullion said.

"I welcome Community Support Agency to Tennant Creek and look forward to hearing of their success in working with local employers to secure employment opportunities for people with disabilities.”
