New Casuarina Police Station Reannounced

The Martin Government is guilty of the shameless misuse of taxpayers' money by issuing a glossy blue and white flyer re-announcing a 2005 election commitment to build a new police station in Casuarina.

"There's not a skerrick of new information in the flyer that has been appearing in people's letter boxes this week,” says Terry Mills, Deputy Opposition Leader.

"To misuse taxpayers' money in such a blatant fashion is indicative of just how arrogant the Martin Government has become.

"The flyer breathlessly informs the reader that 'Rest assured, it will be business as usual during construction' but doesn't give a date for that construction to begin.'

"That's because as the flyer also points out – 'Tenders to build the station will soon be called'

"We are also promised further misuse of taxpayers' money with the commitment 'to keep you informed during the building of the new Casuarina Police Station'.

"This is nothing more than blatant political advertising by the Martin Government and should be paid for the by the Labor Party.

"It is legitimate for governments to inform the electorate of changes that will impact on their daily lives.

"It is not legitimate to use taxpayer's money to re-announce a budget announcement of an election announcement.”
