New Bus For Sanderson High School

Federal Member for Solomon, David Tollner, today handed over the keys to Sanderson High School for their new school bus, worth $95,693, as part of the Investing in Our Schools Programme.

"The 519 students will benefit from this important purchase, which was funded through the Australian Government's innovative IOSP,” Mr Tollner said.

"The new bus will replace a 16 year old bus and include fitted seatbelts and air conditioning which will meet the latest safety standards and allow students to travel more comfortably over long distances.

"This purchase will continue to allow travel to offsite locations and events which will support the educational needs of students by providing learning experiences outside of the classroom.”

This highly successful $1.2 billion IOSP funds capital projects identified and prioritised by school communities. $827 million has been provided for government schools and $354 million for non-government schools.

In addition to the $1.2 billion allocation, the Minister for Education Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP recently announced the Howard Government's continued support for the Investing in Our Schools Programme. Further details regarding the extension of the Programme will be released at a later date.

"In Northern Territory, IOSP has provided more than $15.7 million for 354 projects in 152 schools,” Mr Tollner said.

"This is what this programme is all about, helping school communities fund projects that will enhance their environment and curriculum.

"There has never been a period of greater investment in Australia's schools.”
