NT Assembly Set For Historic No Confidence Motion
The Speaker, Jane Aagaard, has agreed to a request by the 11 Opposition and two Independent MLAs to recall Parliament early so notice can be given of an intention to move an historic want of confidence motion in the Assembly.
Opposition Leader, Terry Mills, said Parliament will resume at 4pm on Monday.
At that time, the Opposition and two Independents will support a notice of motion to be given by Terry Mills in accordance with the Electoral Act 2004 expressing that the Government no longer has the confidence of the Assembly.
In addition, the Speaker has also approved a request by the 13 non-Labor MLAs for Parliament to sit for a further additional sitting day on Friday to move, debate and resolve the confidence motion.
“The Country Liberals made the request in the interests of bringing to an end the current crisis overshadowing the Territory,” Mr Mills said.
“Whatever the outcome the Territory needs to be removed from the current state of instability created by the failures of the Henderson Government and to give much needed certainty as soon as possible.
“I look forward to the resolution of this crisis into which the Henderson Government has descended.”
