New Territory News Mandatory Sentences Proposed For Emergency Worker AssaultsThe attack last night on Fire Fighters by youths throwing rocks highlights the need for the CLP proposal to introduce mandatory sentences on those people who assault our emergency workers.
Last night Fire Fighters attending a rubbish bin fire in Karama were pelted by rocks as they were leaving the scene after putting the fire out. Youths lingering about the area dispersed after the incident and fortunately there were no injuries.
"We have called for protection for our emergency workers and we have proposed minimum sentences for those who attack our emergency workers.” Jodeen Carney said today.
"This is exactly the sort of thing that the CLP is concerned about. The fact is that this Labor Government has done nothing about it. We have announced our proposal and our proposal is that people who attack emergency workers will go to gaol.
"I have been preparing a legislative package to take to Parliament and I will be introducing it as soon as I can.” 2006-07-05
