Presented by Minister for Workforce Participation, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, the award acknowledges Mr Mackie's contributions to the Work for the Dole program while supervising the 'Rotary Club Safety Cycle Centre' activity in Katherine.
Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said Bob Mackie was recognised for giving above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the success of this activity.
"I congratulate Bob on his achievement. His personal dedication to this project has ensured its successful completion and has greatly improved the opportunities available to many of its participants.
"I also congratulate the Rotary Club of Katherine for their support and the Community Work Coordinator, Industry Education Networking Pty Ltd, without whom this great achievement may never have been accomplished," said Senator Scullion.
The Work for the Dole program has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 1997. In 2004 alone over 5 700 activities provided 65 000 opportunities for participants across Australia.
"Activities such as this provide communities with a great practical resource to build and maintain their infrastructure whilst giving participants the practical skills that employers are seeking," Senator Scullion said. 2005-06-15
