New Territory News Family Relationships Package LaunchedFederal Member for Solomon, David Tollner MP today encouraged local families to utilise a new education resource launched by the Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mal Brough as part of National Families Week, from 13 to19 May.
"The Keys to Living Together resource was developed in response to continued demand from the community and the community services sector for supportive relationship education products,” Mr Tollner said.
"In 2005, the Howard Government committed $2 million ($500,000 each year) for Family Relationship Education and Skills Training resource development.
"Around 900,000 copies of the package have been made, and will be distributed to relationship education service providers, sector representative groups, and stakeholders with shared interests in this area,” Mr Tollner said.
The package consists of three DVDs, with corresponding magazines, aimed at improving outcomes for couples and families, with an emphasis on pre-marriage/committed couples, step and blended families, and couples with a newborn.
"The release of the Keys To Living Together kit reflects the Howard Government's commitment to supporting and building healthy family relationships. In the 2005-06 Budget the Government allocated an additional $12 million over four years to Family Relationship Education and Skills Training which is offered in 81 locations across Australia,” Mr Tollner said.
The theme for Families Week 2007 is "FITT Families - Families Investing in Time Together,” encouraging all Australians to take time to improve the all-round physical and emotional wellbeing of their family. 2007-05-15
