Electricity Price Hikes Close Business
The collapse of Top End water bottling business Ridgy Didge is another example of how Labor’s policies are hurting all Territorians, says Deputy Opposition Leader Kezia Purick.
“This long-standing business gave Territorians the option of buying local and because of the Henderson Government’s failure to manage the electricity system, that option’s now gone,” Ms Purick said.
“The 25% increase in electricity and 70% increase in water are hitting every Territorian where it hurts – the hip pocket.
“For the operators of Ridgy Didge, the price hikes proved catastrophic.
“I understand other Territory businesses are doing it hard as well because of the impact the outrageous increase in utility charges are having on their bottom line.
“It will be on issues such as the Government’s inability to properly manage the Territory’s power supply that members will consider during Friday’s want of confidence motion.
“Members will also recall the Henderson Government’s failure to take responsibility for the nurse staffing crisis, the slow rate of land release resulting in the highest rents in the country and 83% increase in violent crime during Labor’s time in office.
“This is on top of its failure to build one house under the SIHIP.
“It’s no wonder Territorians have lost confidence in Labor.”
