New Territory News Darwin Inpex Gas Plant for Middle Arm"The Chief Minister's increasing hysterical attacks on people who don't agree with his plan to put heavy industry in Darwin Harbour are more in keeping with a school yard bully than a Chief Minister,” says Terry Mills, Leader of the Opposition.
"In an attempt to divert attention from Territory Labor's failure to invest in Glyde Point as a site for heavy industry, the Chief Minister has resorted to one of the oldest and cheapest tricks in the book – misquoting.
"His latest media release on the gas issue contains the quote 'They (Inpex) said the only place they could build was Middle Arm…' as evidence that Inpex need to build in the Harbour.
"The full quote actually reads 'They said the only place they could build was Middle Arm because that's all they were offered by the Government.'
"By deliberately distorting the meaning of my statement the Chief Minister has merely highlighted his habit of playing with the truth.
"Top of the list of untruths is the Chief Minister's repeated claims that I'm trying to scuttle the possibility of a LNG plant in Darwin.
"It's such nonsense that even the Chief Minister blushes when he says it.
"I'm fully committed to bringing Inpex to the Territory, at Glyde Point.
"If the Chief Minister was confident of his position on this matter there would be no need to play the truth.” 2008-04-08
