New Territory News Darwin Domestic Gas Supply In DoubtThe Territory Opposition is urging the Chief Minister not to throw in the towel on negotiating downstream domestic gas supplies should the Inpex/Total LNG plant go ahead in Darwin.
“The Territory needs access to gas to develop its industrial base and Inpex/Total represents our best opportunity for a decade,” says Terry Mills, Leader of the Opposition.
“The Chief Minister should be raising the issue of downstream domestic gas use when he meets with Total.
“The last Chief Minister failed to close a deal for domestic gas with Conco Phillips – I hope the current one isn’t planning to repeat the mistake.
“I’m amazed the Chief Minister thinks there is no need to negotiate domestic access to the LNG that may be processed in Darwin.
“Not 12 months ago Labor was making much of the need to secure a gas supply to attract projects like Dow Chemical to the Territory.
“The Chief Minister should be negotiating hard for the future of the Territory.” 2008-05-28
