Claim Toyne Departure Deceitful

The announcement today of the Departure of Dr Peter Toyne is the culmination of a clear deceit perpetrated on the people of Stuart and the people of the Territory.

"Prior to the last election he wanted to resign and he changed his mind after being pressured by the Chief Minister,” Shadow Central Australian Minister, Richard Lim said today.

"Three weeks ago he gave an absolute commitment that he would be around to contest the next election in 2009. (Centralian Advocate 4th August 2006)

"He chose to lie to Territorians prior to the last election because of political expediency. He told Territorians that there were no family issues and that there were no health issues preventing him from proceeding.

"Now, merely a year after the last Territory election, he is going. He has demonstrated a shameful capacity to lie to Territorians and now they have to pick up the bill.”
