Call to Seal Alice Springs Shopping Centre Car Park

New Mayor, Damien Ryan, has received his first petition as Mayor of Alice Springs from the Member for Araluen, Jodeen Carney.

Ms Carney presented the Mayor with a petition from local residents asking the Alice Springs Town Council to seal the car parking areas near the Flynn Drive sporting ovals and shops.

"The large amount of dust being kicked up around the car parks is causing a great deal of concern amongst local residents,” says Ms Carney.

"It's unhealthy and unpleasant to have plumes of dust sprayed across the neighbourhood by people driving too fast on the unsealed car parks.

"Sealing the car parks will resolve this problem once and for all.”

The petition has been at the Flynn Drive shops and in my office for the last couple of months. Approximately 100 people have signed the petition.

"Many promises about being responsive to the wishes of the people were made during the Council election campaign.

"This is an opportunity for the Mayor, and the Council, to demonstrate that they are a Council of action.

"I know the living people around Flynn Drive hope so.”
