Call For Federal Assistance To Rebuild Beswick School

Senator Trish Crossin has called on the Federal Government to provide financial backing for the Northern Territory Government's decision to build the flood-prone Wugularr School* on higher ground.

"I congratulate the NT Government for realising the urgency of the School's problem in the decision to bring forward by three years the construction of the new school.

”It's welcome news for the people of Beswick (Wugularr) whose school has repeatedly flooded over the years” Senator Crossin said.

"Barbara McCarthy and I were visiting Beswick last week between it being flooded on 28 March and again last Friday.

"The decision on the new school is a great vote of confidence in the community.

"The Federal Government should also rise to the occasion by contributing to the new school's construction costs recognising the urgency of this disaster relief.

"Such a gesture from the Federal Government would be greatly appreciated by the people of Beswick” Senator Crossin said.
