New Territory News Alcoholic Mouthwash Abused in Alice SpringsThe prevalence of empty bottles of the alcoholic mouthwash Listerine in the litter stream of Alice Springs indicates the product is again being widely misused, says the Territory Opposition.
"I'm calling on all retail outlets selling Listerine in Alice Springs to ensure the product is kept behind a service counter,” says Jodeen Carney, Shadow Attorney General.
"I believe most chemists and supermarkets in Alice Springs already have a restricted sales policy for Listerine.
"It's unfortunate that the ordinary residents of Alice Springs are again being inconvenienced by the need to restrict access to an everyday product.
"Listerine's relatively high alcohol content results in it being used as a substitute for standard alcohol products.
"Unfortunately controlling alcohol abuse in Alice Springs requires restricting access to these types of alternative sources of alcohol.
