ALP Vote In Greatorex Lowest On Record

The fact the ALP's vote in the Greatorex by-election is the lowest vote on record is a stinging indictment of the performance of the Martin Government, says the Territory Opposition.

"Clare Martin will be fooling herself if she thinks this woeful result is the result of issues confined to Alice Springs, says Jodeen Carney, Leader of the opposition.

"The message I heard whilst door knocking in Alice Springs in the last three weeks is the same message I get at my mobile office in Darwin.

"People are fed up with level of crime and anti-social behaviour in our suburbs.

"They want a stronger police presence on the street and they want the courts to end the revolving door for repeat offenders.

"They want to see a little more respect for basic civilities on the streets, in the shops and all other public places.

"They expect to be seen, within a reasonable time, when they present at Emergency at Royal Darwin.

"They want their kids to have the same opportunity they had to enjoy the great Australian dream of home ownership.

"They know our schools are stretched to the limit and need extra resources to continue delivering a world class education.

"There's a growing consensus that the Martin Government is unable to deliver these basic requirements.

"People believe the Martin Government is all talk, no action.”
