227 Students Expelled from Taminmin High School

The suspension of 227 students at Taminmin High School already this year is a disturbing indication of the social problems besetting many communities in the Territory.

“There’s no doubt the rising level of crime and anti-social behaviour on our streets is also filtering into our schools,” says Terry Mills, Leader of the Territory Opposition.

“Less than a week ago the Territory Government was in complete denial about the discipline problems besetting too many of our schools.

“The same as the Government’s response to its denial of rising violent crime rates.

“I’m pleased Taminmin as adopted such a strict approach to the issue school discipline.

“The Opposition support a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour in our schools.

“There must be no doubt amongst students that they are at school to learn and that failure to follow the rules will result in swift punishment.

”A strict boot camp is also needed to remove that hard core of young offenders making life hell for so many other youngsters.”
